Organisation Information:
Moral Compass collaborates with various community groups and educational institutions who support teenagers in the area who are facing social, academic, or behavioural challenges. We provide support for youth using the outdoors environment to teach life skills including bushcraft, navigation, hunting and fishing. In addition to outdoor activities, we offer one-on-one mentoring sessions and motivational talks in local schools/colleges and groups.
Through these personalised approaches, we aim to inspire hope and demonstrate that life offers more than escapism through fast food, alcohol, and drugs. By engaging youth in outdoor adventures led by highly-trained instructors, our mission is to help them build a strong Moral Compass, guiding them toward a positive future.
With our one-on-one mentoring sessions, Moral Compass works with some of the youth in our district who need it most, working closely with youth referred through partnerships with the Youth Justice System, Ministry of Education, and other organisations. Our focus is on working to equip these teenagers with vital life skills often inaccessible to them.
Spending quality time outdoors not only enhances resilience and mental wellbeing but also promotes physical activity, confidence, enthusiasm, and moral strength. We use the Te Whare Tapa Wha model when working with young people, developing the whole person as holistically as possible, caring for the physical wellbeing, spiritual wellbeing, mental and emotional wellbeing as well as family and social wellbeing.
